What is Solea?
Solea is the first CO2 dental laser system cleared by the FDA for hard and soft tissue procedures. It was developed in Boston, Massachusetts by Convergent Dental, based on research conducted at the University of California School of Dentistry. Solea offers a unique wavelength guided by sophisticated computers to deliver virtually painless dental procedures for both teeth and gums from simple cavities to complex surgeries. Not only is the laser virtually painless, it is also vibrationless and noiseless. Dr. Mizner was the first dentist in the world to use this unique laser and has given several lectures and live demonstration courses to hundreds of dentists on the use of Solea. The experience is so different that you will find it hard to believe you were just at a dental appointment.
Why Solea?
The majority of hard- and soft-tissue procedures in our office are done with no anesthesia, and soft-tissue procedures are done with virtually no bleeding. Blood-free and anesthesia-free procedures represent a major leap forward in dentistry, as we are able to execute multi-quadrant dentistry, fillings on the fly, and soft-tissue procedures in a single appointment. What does that mean for you, our patient? You are now able to receive the care you need in a fraction of the time—and pain—you were accustomed to from traditional drills. Solea is also far less invasive than using a traditional handpiece, which makes healing time following a procedure much shorter. When patients have anesthesia they typically leave the office with that numb feeling still prevalent. With Solea, you are able to go right out to lunch or back to work without that numb sensation following your appointment. Solea is truly changing what it means to go to the dentist.
Solea® Laser FAQs
What exactly is Solea?
Solea is an isotopic CO2 laser that operates at a unique wavelength—9.3 microns—to deliver fast results whether used on gingiva, dentin, enamel, or bone. It produces a very narrow, intense beam of light energy that, when it comes in contact with tissue, is able to remove or reshape that tissue.
What can Solea be used for?
With Solea, we can easily prepare a tooth when filling a cavity so you can be in, out, and on with an even healthier day. Solea can be used on hard (enamel and dentin), soft (gums), and osseous (bone) tissue.
Does Solea hurt?
Our Solea dental laser lets us deliver virtually anesthesia-free, blood-free, suture-free, and pain-free procedures for both teeth and gums, from simple filling prep to complex surgeries.
Do I need anesthesia with Solea?
With our dental laser, Solea, 95% of routine procedures are done without anesthesia. This means less anxiety, less discomfort, and no more “fat lip.”
Can Solea be used on children?
Yes! Solea can be used on children and infants. Treatments like frenectomy procedures, which can be invasive and usually require general anesthesia, can be done quickly, comfortably, and without anesthesia thanks to Solea.
Are there risks with using Solea?
Solea is FDA-cleared as a CO2 9.3 micron dental laser—the first of its kind on the market. There are actually fewer risks in using a dental laser like Solea in comparison to traditional dental treatments. There is less potential chance of bacterial infection because laser treatments are so precise, and there is often far less bleeding during surgical procedures.
